This pattern comes with a ton of mix and match options and I know you’ll all want to make a different one but for ease we will be making the straight blouse with short, straight sleeves and button up closure. Once you’ve mastered the techniques required to make this version there’ll be no stopping you making multiple versions in all the options available. This course is suitable for confident beginners. I will expect you to know your way around a sewing machine and to have sewn at least a few projects to completion, these do not have to be garments. If you’re a beginner at garment making, check out the Sew a Skipper course before considering this one. Techniques taught & What’s Included: PDF patterns - from buying to printing, unraveling any confusions surrounding this way of purchasing patterns Measurements - how and where to measure, how to decide your size, understanding ease and what difference does it make Fabric choices - what’s suitable and what’s not. What’s a Toilé and can I wear it? Laundering & Pressing - it’s not just washing and ironing Cutting Layouts - transferring markings and what do they all mean anyway Basic sewing techniques - including but not limited to: using pins, clips, pattern storage, needle plate markings, tips and tricks to make your sewing life easier Staystitching Darts - 2D piece of cloth to 3D garment Seam finishes Interfacing - why we stiffen/strengthen certain areas Facings Button plackets Buttonholes - placement and sewing Setting in Sleeves Topstitching Hemming Use of a sewing machine at our dedicated sewing studio, and an A0 print out of the pattern pages required for the project in your size, you will also be able to use all the tools, irons etc provided in the sewing studio. You will be in a class of only 4 people so you will get the tuition and help you need. The class will be taught over 6 weeks, with some homework likely to be required, please factor this into your decision to book, as it is important you turn up to the next session ready to begin that weeks’ session and not finishing last weeks’ Our aim is for everyone to complete their blouse so we do need to stay on track however this cannot be an absolute guarantee, we will ensure you know how to finish up. What’s not included The actual pdf pattern, fabric or notions. All materials will need to be purchased separately (they do not have to be purchased from me but they must be suitable for the project).
